Gear Bustin' Sort of a Feller

Gear Bustin' Sort of a Feller

I've always liked the classic truck driving songs. Dave Dudley (Wisconsin product) is right up there at the top of my list. You can't dispute Red Sovine when it comes to truckin' numbers. I remember my college football days with the Orediggers of Montana Tech. We'd travel abroad through the wild west bunched up on a bus for 17 hours singing Phantom 309 and Giddy Up Go with a few of the fellows. Our CO & Head Coach, Bob Green (still in charge at Diggerville) was a huge country music fan who would also join in with a tune or two. Bob Green was the guy who introduced me to a dandy truckin' tune by Commander Cody called Mama Hated Diesels. They too are now one of my favorites.

Old Bill in Crackerville, Montana shared with me many of his favorite tunes that also included some old truckin' songs. One I always remember was from Jim & Jesse called Diesel on my Tail. He also liked There's a Tombstone Every Mile by Dick Curless. Del Reeves and Hank Snow were also some classic truck driving artists he liked. We'd spend hours listening and talking about our favorite stuff. He turned me on to Red Simpson songs like Hello I'm a Truck, Nitro Express and Diesel Smoke/Dangerous Curves. I remember those nights like it was yesterday.

After all this time listening to my favorite truckin' songs and thinking I've heard most of it by now, I found a gem of a song that dropped me the first time I heard it. It's by Bobby Braddock who is a legendary songwriter. I'm sure you would recognize some of his work like He Stopped Loving Her Today. Does that ring a bell? Braddock has a song that's called Gear Bustin' Sort Of A Feller that I think could be the greatest truck driving song of ALL TIME! I'm interested in some of your favorite truckin' songs. Maybe I'll find another keeper.

That one is a classic Greg but nothing beats Teddy Bear. Everytime I hear the ending of that song with those trucks all lined up giving Teddy Bear a ride I get all teary eyed just picturing it in my mind

I've known since the first time you filled in for me on the COuntry Hall of Fame about your love of "Truck Drivin Music".
Because the week I came back everyone was asking me "You're not gonna Play all Truckin Music this week are you Red"!!! LOL

"10-4 Good Buddy Looks like we got us a CONVOY"!!
