When part of a tree falls in your front yard

When part of a tree falls in your front yard

By Tim Beggs ( Contact )   November 12, 2007

The branch went down during a recent windstorm. We knew it was going to take some effort to clean it up. Everette already has the chainsaw clearing what brush he can from the ground. Me, Jonny, Jimmy and Gus O'Malley are making a big pile in the front in the front yard. Gus O'Malley's my dog and he's just in the way picking up sticks and chewing on them. As we get a closer look, it's clear that the only thing keeping this massive branch up is the neighbors garage and the cable running from the street. The chainsaw is working good and loud, saw dust is flying and I'm just hoping we can get it all down safely. We can't help "ripping" on each other as we always do. Jimmy's taking a beating like he always does. By now Everette's in the tree with the chainsaw and the traffic from the street slows as motorists are getting a look at the guy in the tree with a chainsaw. We thought the job would be as easy as going to Harris Ace Hardware. You know, "zip in, Zip out." Well it wasn't that simple, but the job was half over. We all admired the huge brush pile in the front yard. It would spend the rest of the weekend there. Phase one of the project was done. We made plans to get the trailer on Monday and complete the mission. The phone rang as expected early Monday morning. Everette's on his way and I'm still in bed trying to wake up. I get dressed and finish putting on my boots when Gus O'malley spots a truck in the driveway. We get Jonny up and start loading the trailer. After a few minutes we realize it's going to take more than one trip to the dump to finish the job. We fit what we can and secure the load for the road. As we pull into the landfill the guy working takes a look and points to the drop area. We unload and head back for the last of the brush pile. This job seems to be taking more time and effort than we planned, but the end is near. We make it back to the dump, this time the guy just waves us on. In no time the trailer's empty and phase two of Operation Brush Removal is complete. Thanks to the help of a great friend with a truck and a chainsaw, it's the end of the line for that fallen tree branch of mine.

While you were at the dump, I put my branches on your pile. Is that wrong?
