Russian Adoption Woman!

Russian Adoption Woman!

By Mike Austin ( Contact )   April 13, 2010

Lisa ("The Big Hair Lady") and I were outraged, disgusted, crushed and angered when we heard the news story about the lady who adopted a young, Russian boy and then, 6 months later (last week) decided it was too hard to deal with and put him on a plane with a note and sent him back to Russia!

Apparently her last straw was when the little boy tried to burn down the house! As an adoptive father of kids from Poland, I know of the difficulties she was dealing with. The problem is, once you adopt a child, internationally or domestically, THAT IS YOUR CHILD! You don't get to give your children back!

When you adopt from another country you go in with your eyes open. There are "hoops" to jump through, various levels at which you have an opportunity to back out. You are told at every turn how hard it is going to be and that your child could very well have behavior or worse problems. You are encouraged to have a good support system from family.

In addition, I know, we are part of a group of parents who have all adopted from Poland. We meet every Summer for a huge "family" pinic and we meet at least once during the year. Other adoptive parents are only a phone call away! Thankfully we have been able to deal with all "problems" on our own and our children are very well adjusted. This little boy who got sent back to Russia...ALONE...will now have more problems than before!

Anyway, just thought I'd drain my brain on this subject. I am the father of 6 kids, 4 of which came to us all at the same time, from Poland. Life raising ANY children is a challenge, that's part of what makes it worth while.

Mike:
I will be in Poland the first week of May. Can I bring you back anything for the kids?

I agree, this woman and her mother are not right upstairs! So he had psycological problems, get him the help he needs and deserves. JMO

I am totally disgusted by the actions of that heartless woman. I think she should be charged with child abandonment and she should have to support that child financially until he is grown. She sure doesn't know anything about being a mother, in my opinion. She should have known that boy would have to adjust to a whole new way of life.

Good for you Mike! God bless you for adopting all those children. The best to you, your wife & family! Sad news about the Polish government officials (President) who all died in that plane crash too.
