New Year's FOOD!!!

New Year's FOOD!!!

By Mike Austin ( Contact )   December 31, 2007

Imagine that...I equate New Year's with...FOOD! I used to live in Texas, and I picked up a Southern tradition every New Year's Day. I have to have black eyed peas. The saying goes that if you have black eyed peas on New Year's Day you'll be Blessed all year long. I don't know if that's true, but I LOVE black eyed peas, so we eat them. Firest, sautee' onions in butter or olive oil. Fry up some bacon in a separate pan then break up or cut the bacon into small pieces. Slowly melt cream cheese into the onions. stir in the bacon, then add your black eyed peas. Last, stir in a little sour cream to taste....MMMMMMM! The other food my Dad always made on New Year's was Oyster Stew. Sautee' onions and diced celery in butter or olive oil. Add some heavy cream and whole milk in a big soup kettle...dump in the onions and celery. Now, on med heat add several cans of oysters (depending on how much you like oysters). Now just add fresh garlic and salt to taste. You can also add some basil and oregano if youlike. MMMMM again. Do you have a New Year favorite? HAPPY NEW YEAR!
