We Are The World 2010

By Justin Brown ( Contact )   February 3, 2010

When I first learned that they were re-recording the song "We Are The World", I thought, "What? Why that song? Why not come up with something different?" I then decided to wait until I actually heard the "new" version of the song before passing judgment. Plus, the relief effort in Haiti is as worthy a cause as any. But still, "We Are The World?" Hmm? Am I alone in thinking that song served its purpose already?

If you didn't hear, the only "country" stars asked to participate were Sugarland, Julianne Hough, Zac Brown and Miley Cyrus, if you even consider Miley "country."

The recording sessions took place in L.A. this week with mostly pop and rock artists. The project was headed by Quincy Jones at the same place the original song was recorded at in 1985. Hollywood’s historic A&M complex. Written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, the newly-recorded version of the song will benefit earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.

So far, it looks and sounds like the same 1985 song to me. I was hoping the "new" song would be different than the original. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

What do you think?
