Honky Tonk Heroes

Honky Tonk Heroes

For those of you that listen to the Country Hall of Fame you already know this past weekend that I had taken a vacation to Kansas City. Now I know alot of you are asking yourself "Red, Why Kansas City"? Well I went there to see my good frien JMAC and see a Honky Tonk show that was well worth the ride!!

On Friday my wife Gerri and I along with our friends Troy and Renee Dickey of Broadhead made the treck down to Kansas City to see Dallas Wayne, Billy Joe Shaver, Dale Watson, and the Cherokee Cowboy Ray Price at a club called Knuckleheads. Gerri and I were also there to see our good friend Jon McNatt(JMAC) who is now living in the Kansas City area working for General Motors.

The show was a Honky Tonk music fans dream. As Dallas Wayne opened up the show with a short but very entertaining set. Next up was one of Country Musics forgotten legends and one of the best Country Songwriters Billy Joe Shaver. Shavers set was full of hits he had written for the likes of Waylon Jennings and John Anderson, to his signature song "Georgia on a Fast Train".

Then came the reasons for the 8 hour trek to Missouri Dale Watson & His Lonestars. Dale Played alot of his favorites along with four new tracks from his upcoming Cd that will be released in August tentatively titled "Carrying On". I also want to Thank Dale for dedicating the Song "Flowers in Your Hair" to Gerri and I. It will be available on the new release and is a song that only Dale or the Great Merle Haggard could sing.

And last but not least was the man for the evening Mr. Ray Price. The Country Hall of Famer sang a string of hits an mile long. And held the crowd in the palm of his hand for the entire 70 minute set. And believe me at 83 Ray might have slowed down physically. But his voice is as crisp as it was back during his hitmaking years in the late sixties and early seventies. And take my advice if you get a chance to see Ray don't pass it up!!
