Hurricane Jerry

Hurricane Jerry

By Big Red ( Contact )   January 25, 2010

You know the old saying if you wait long enough history will repeat itself? Well the past couple days that has come true with me in my life and radio. As an old friend has decided to come out of "Radio Retirement" ala Brett Favre!

Let me go back to where the story begins. Around 1988 WJVL was gonna become a 24 hour Country Station. And then Program Director Gary Moen hired two green radio announcers to alternate overnights. Those two announcers were Hurricane Jerry, and yours truly Big Red. And the "Overnight Tag Team" was born. We went to all kinds of shows together, drove to Jefferson Speedway in a car covered in Station Bumper Stickers, and introduced the Bellamy Brothers at one of the first Country Fests in Cadott! We also worked together at WMJB for a year!

Well, as time passed and our careers and lives took different paths we had lost touch with each other. Thanks to Facebook Jerry and I were put back in touch with each other. He had told me that he had been out of Radio for over 15 years. But was getting the itch to get back into it on a part-time basis. Over the weeks we talked and I mentioned to him at my birthday party that he should call Ken and be my replacement when I can't do "The Country Hall of Fame"! Well one thing lead to another and this past weekend "The Overnight Tag Team" was back in the WJVL studios 22 years later. And to be honest it felt like it was only yesterday.

It's really Great to have my Old Friend "Hurricane Jerry" back again! He will be filling in for me for the next two Sundays while I'm working on my Native tan in Jamaica. So I would appreciate it if you would welcome back "The Only Hurricane on the radio" my Friend "Hurricane Jerry"!!!

I remember Hurricane Jerry. I've wondered what happened to him.
