My Favorite Car Part II

My Favorite Car Part II

By Tim Beggs ( Contact )   November 23, 2007

The deal had gone down. I gave the guy $500 and he gave me the title, 2 sets of keys and a box with spare parts for the electric seats and windows. We drove to the Butte Silver Bow County Courthouse and $67 later we made it legal. I still couldn't believe she was mine. We went for a quick ride on I-90 to Rocker. I had to get her out on the open road to see what she had and she had plenty. I called my friend Jonny Lee to invite him for a ride. I knew he'd be up for it, so I headed for Broadway St. As I pulled up to his apartment I could see him looking out his second story window trying to get a quick peek at me and my new gal. He came running out the front door with a smile a mile wide. "She's a knockout E" Jonny said as I swung open the rear door for him to get in. "I've never seen one like her before, she's a real jewel." Jonny hands me a small box and says; "I got you a present." Inside was a handful of classic 8 track tapes he picked up for next to nothing at a garage sale. I threw in a George Jones tape and we took a ride. He was amazed with her beauty and impressed by her style. She had suicide doors, her hood opened backwards and her trunk had enough room to haul cattle. "They sure don't make them like this anymore E." E was my nickname, short for Elvis. We both loved the King. "I don't know too many people with a 1969 Lincoln Continental like this one E." I was all smiles. "What's her name" Jonny asked. "A car like this has to have a name." He was right, she had to get a name. I thought for a moment and it came to me. "Her name is Gladys" I proudly said, "because that was Elvis' mamas name." That was the perfect name for her, my favorite car.
