Indy

Indy

By Tim Beggs ( Contact )   May 27, 2008

There are many who associate the month of May with the Indianapolis 500. I was always a fan of this great race back in the day. Like many I have drifted away from the Indy 500. It's not that I don't care about the great american race, I just don't look as forward to it as I used to. I'll admit I watched bits and pieces this year, but that's about it.

It seems this country and others around the world were interested in another Indy. The return of Indiana Jones. Over the holiday weekend "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" earned over 311 million dollars worldwide in its first several days of release. Paramount Pictures says the film made a little more than 151 million dollars in the United States and Canada, making it the second-highest Memorial Day holiday weekend opener ever behind "Pirates of the Caribbean:At World's End." The film claimed the number one spot in 61 other countries as well.

A Paramount spokesman says the success has been driven by people in their 30's & 40's who were fans of the first three movies in the series during the 80's. From what I've seen and heard this is one spectacular movie that fans of Indy old and new are going to love. George Lucas says this film is in a class by itself and according to the box office numbers he's right.

ray53511: I disagree. Indy was very exciting, even without Danica. However, the jungle chase scene would have been pretty interesting if Danica had been driving one of the jeeps.

(You *were* talking about Indy Jones, right?)

The Indy was pretty boring would have been more excitin had Danica been Kept it and Let Her WIN IT. I believe she was taken out on purpose. Had it been a man security would'nt have stopped him from going have him in the PITS.As for Indy Jones I have been there to see it yet will be going soon though.

Indiana Jones could have sucked eggs, and I would still have loved it! It was like visiting an old friend.

I agree the race just doesnt excite me like it use to. For me its because Nascar is so big now and easy to follow. Id rather watch Nascar. Most of the Indy series is out of the U.S. plus other then Danica Patrick Indy drivers/teams just arent in the public eye enough. I bet unless you follow it on a regular basis most people couldnt name 5 drivers. I did watch for a little while though.

As for Indiana Jones, also saw it this past weekend. Ending was kind of lame but I agree with last comment that it wrapped up series pretty good.

We saw Indiana Jones this past Saturday. Not the ending you are expecting, but a nice way to wrap up the series.
